Team Up Thursday - Week 21
Theme: Aperture
Am posting this TUT a day early as tomorrow I am heading off for sunny South Africa to spend time with friends and family so may not get a chance.
I really enjoyed this week's theme as playing with aperture has always been one of my fav parts of photography, getting that specific part of the photo crystal clear whilst the rest is softly out of focus.
Claire's shot this week could be from a commercial makeup shoot so well done partner, great example of aperture :0)
Other bloggers taking up the challenge:
(I have only linked in to one participant in each partnership, you should easily be able to navigate from there)
Corey & Berta
Megan & Melody
Joanne & Rose
Cat and Shayne
Lynette & Stefanie
Linda-Maree & Mariette
Photo's that didn't make the cut.

When the Bride is dressed in Black
A couple of weeks ago I was asked to photograph the 4th wedding of a friend of mine's uncle. I have to be honest I was really really nervous, I tend to shy away from weddings as there is no reshoot, you can't check your screen and ask the minister to "do that again please".
Anyway lots of rescue later, the venue had been checked, the outdoor "location" chosen and the day dawned.....fortunately the church where the ceremony (and reception) were held is a very relaxed family church and it wasn't long before I was able to relax and have some fun.

I tried to spend some time before the wedding photographing the details and some of the guests in candid poses as they waited for the bride to arrive - all the things she didn't get to see.
When the bride arrived dressed in black I had to rethink a lot of the traditional shots I had in my mind, but one thing I am learning is to go with the flow and at the end of the day this elegant lady and her gallant new husband really relaxed and got into the swing of things.

I found it quite difficult to capture all the important moments in the church without being intrusive, after all the bride and groom should be completely in the moment and not worrying about the photographer - no flash was used obviously but the church is very nice and light so didn't present to much of a problem.

We chose a nearby park for the photographs which on a magnificent autumn afternoon presented a little bit of a problem as far as crowds where concerned, but with a few creative camera angles gladly we managed to avoid adding them to the pics.

Neither the bride or groom felt particularly comfortable in front of the camera so we went for the more relaxed shots, I encouraged them to chat and laugh and tried to capture the moments rather than set up formal poses.

I loved a stain glass window I found on the side of the church, the cross was perfectly placed and I like the imagery I was able to create with the rings.

Speeches presented their own set of challenges as by now the light was really low, again shooting without flash I am very lucky the Nikon is a very versatile camera and was brilliant in low lighting situations.

Will I do it again? I am not sure...was it as terrifying as I thought it would be? definitely not. The bride and groom are happy with the photos so at the end of the day I achieve what I set out to do.

12th October Challenge
The idea behind this challenge is to carry your camera with you through the day and shoot 12 shots on the 12 day of every month....nice record at the end of 12 months...so here goes. This is always one of my favourite sights in the morning....Nick sharing either or both his brother and sister's breakfast.....too long to wait for his own
Traffic on the school run can be a bit of a nightmare, but when it is as pretty as it is at the moment it really isn't too much of a hardship
As I had a couple of things to do in Haywards Heath this morning it was straight into the "pay and display" rather than home as usual
Things only open at 9am so as we were a bit early we went for a stroll down the High Street....the weather has been simply PERFECT the last couple of days
Had to stop for a quick hot chocolate and lemon cake at my absolute best coffee shop, The Bay Tree, owned by a fellow South African. I know I know Lemon Cake for breakfast :0)
The whole purpose for our trip was to buy Phil a mobile phone for his 10th birthday - mission accomplished
Once all my chores were done I could spend the afternoon finishing the scarf I am knitting for the winter
Team Up Thursday - Week 20
Theme: Autumn
Although Claire asked me to join her in a theme this week I was the worst kind of partner ever and let her down at the last minute saying it was too hard and could we revert to my (as ever) easy theme, so THANK YOU Claire, you are (as ever) the best partner.
The weather has been APPALLING this week and as such has made getting out there to take photographs especially difficult....on our way home from an outing on Tuesday however I spotted this quintessential English Autumn scene and couldn't resist stopping to photograph it.

Almost as proof of how quintessentially English Autumn it is Claire as photographed an incredibly similar scene :0)
